Endocrine disruptors in cosmetics – What you should know
Share
Pregnancy and early parenthood are full of big emotions – joy, anticipation, and care. When it comes to little ones and their well-being, we want to make the best possible choices. That’s why it’s understandable that many people pause to consider their cosmetic choices. One timely topic is so-called endocrine disruptors – substances that interfere with hormonal activity.
What are endocrine disruptors?
Endocrine disruptors are chemical substances that can interfere with the body’s natural hormonal functions. They may affect development, metabolism, or reproductive health. These effects can be long-term and sometimes only become apparent years later.
Cosmetics and endocrine disruptors
Cosmetics contain a wide range of ingredients that serve important purposes, such as preserving the product, improving texture, or enhancing user experience. Concerns have been raised about the potential hormonal effects of some ingredients. For this reason, their safety is carefully assessed by authorities and independent experts.
The European Union strictly regulates cosmetic ingredients, and all products on the market undergo safety evaluations before being sold. If necessary, the use of certain substances is restricted or banned entirely.
Ensuring safety
At Well by Orion Pharma, customer safety is our top priority. That’s why we go beyond legal requirements and have taken safety assessments a step further.
We’ve commissioned an independent review (In Silico) for most of our cosmetic products in collaboration with Swedish company TKT Sweden. The analysis used publicly available toxicological data, and based on this, the raw materials used in our products have not been found to interfere with hormonal function.
In Silico modeling for endocrine disruptors has so far been conducted for the following products:
• Stretch Mark Serum
• Nipple & Barrier Cream
• Gentle Cleansing & Moisturizing Cream
• Baby Caring & Cleansing Oil
No assessment has yet been done for the Calming Facial Serum, as we prioritized products designed for small children or those used on sensitive or large skin areas.
Understanding endocrine disruptors helps us make informed choices – not out of fear, but in support of well-being. We are committed to developing products suitable for the whole family, including the most sensitive users such as young children and expectant mothers. We want to offer skincare you can trust as part of gentle everyday routines. 💛
